Adding a File Extension to Viewer or Launch

During the Global Settings process we have included known file extension types used by users within CM. However, there an many applications and programs that generate different file extension types that users work with but have not been added to CM. This How To will show you how to add file extensions so the document can be viewed in CM in its native application.

If you come across a document that does not open in its native application when attempting to View the document, you may need to verify and add the file extension in the User Options Viewer Setting.

1.       If you don’t know the file extension of the document, add the Extension column to th
e list pane.

c.       You will see a list of file extensions already added to view within CM.

d.       Scroll through the list and if you do not see the extension you are looking for, type in the file extension in the box and select Add and hit OK.

                                                                i.      Once you have added the extension, please submit a Help Desk Ticket requesting we include this for the next time we set Global Settings so you don’t have to repeat this process the next time you “Get Global”.

e.       Now when you View a document with that extension, it will automatically open in the native application.

If you don’t want to add the file extension to the View tab (maybe you don’t use the application often enough):

1.       When you attempt to View the document, a new window will open.

2.       Click the Launch button located in the upper left corner.

3.       This will then open the document for viewing in the native application.
