Drag and Drop a Document into Content Manager

DRAG-AND-DROP A DOCUMENT INTO CONTENT MANAGER

You can place documents, folders and emails held in your hard drive into a Content Manager folder using the Drag and Drop Method.

1.       Locate the document you want to move into Content Manager. (For example, it may be located on your desktop or in a network folder.)

2.       Reduce the size directory listing showing your document, so that it only takes up half of your desktop. (Or you could position the document on your desktop so that it can be seen there.)

3.       Open Content Manager and reduce the size of the Content Manager window so that it fits within the other half of your computer desktop.

4.       At this point you should see your document you are moving on one side of your computer display, and the destination folder in Content Manager on the other side:

5.       Drag-and-drop the document from your computer directory (or desktop) into the destination folder in Content Manager.  In this example, GEN-11-2-78 is the destination folder.

a.       Note: By default, CM does not present a separate data entry form the document being moved into CM. The document will simply be transferred into the destination folder, utilizing the same title that the document was listed by in your computer directory.

b.       If you would like a data entry form presented before the record is transferred, you can change this behavior by:

i            Accessing the File dropdown menu in the upper left corner of CM  .

ii         Select Options; then choose the Documents tab.

iii       Check the box that says, “Display data entry form when creating new records”. By doing this, you will be presented with a metadata entry form for your document so that you can enter a new title or modify other metadata before the document is saved into Content Manager.

6) Once the document has been transferred to Content Manager, Content Manager will display the document. The document will no longer be available from its previous location on the network or desktop.
