Overview
Copilot Chat is an AI-powered conversational assistant available to all Borough employees at no cost. It can help with a wide range of tasks, from answering questions and brainstorming ideas to writing code and summarizing documents. To use Copilot Chat effectively and securely, it’s important to follow the Borough’s usage guidelines and training instructions to ensure your use aligns with Borough policies. It is recommended to complete the Borough's Copilot Chat Academy before getting started.
Instructions
How to Access Copilot Chat
Via Browser
- Open your preferred browser and go to m365.cloud.microsoft.
- Sign in using your Borough work account (e.g., your @matsugov.us email).
- Look for the green shield icon next to “New chat”. This confirms you're signed in securely and using the Borough’s tenant.

Via Windows App
- Open Microsoft Teams or Outlook.
- Click the ellipsis (...) in the left sidebar to open the app library.
- Search for Copilot and click to open it.
- Right-click on Copilot in the sidebar and select “Pin” to keep it easily accessible.
Staying Secure & Within the Borough Tenant
- Always sign in with your Borough work account. If you’re not signed in, your chats won’t be protected by enterprise data policies.
- When signed in correctly, your prompts and uploaded content stay within the Borough’s tenant, meaning they are not shared externally.
- Look for the green shield icon
in Copilot Chat to confirm secure access.
What You Can Do with Copilot Chat
- Upload files to get responses based on information from your work documents, presentations, etc.
- Generate and edit text, code, and tables
- Generate images and visualize data (e.g., charts, graphs)
- Translate phrases and find synonyms
- Help with research and decision-making
- Access prompt galleries for inspiration
