Overview

Mobile Device Purchase Request is the service for ordering new or replacement Borough-owned smartphones, tablets, rugged field devices, and mobile hotspots outside the standard fiscal-year refresh cycle. Submit this request only when operational work cannot continue without a new device (e.g., break/fix replacement, unplanned new hire, special project).

Description of service

This service covers one-for-one procurement of iOS phones, iPads, and LTE/5G hotspots. IT will:

  • Confirm the device is truly required and no spare is available

  • Expedite the order with AT&T and track shipping if needed for an emergency replacement

  • Enroll the device in the device management system for policy, email, VPN, and required apps

Before submitting this request

  • Obtain supervisor or department-head approval and confirm budget code availability.

  • Verify that the need cannot be met with a spare device.

  • Gather:

    • User name, department, and (if replacing) existing phone number

    • Device type needed (e.g., iPhone, iPad, Cradlepoint)

    • Preferred carrier plan and any coverage considerations if out of the ordinary

    • Business justification (hardware failure, lost/stolen device, urgent project, new hire)

    • Desired in-service date—and end date if the need is temporary

How we process this request

Once we receive your request, we will assign it to a technician who will review the details, confirm eligibility, and contact you during normal business hours. After approval, we will place the order or issue an in-stock spare and schedule a hand-off session for setup.
