Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of authentication in addition to your password. This guide explains how to set up MFA for your Borough account, using either a phone call or a mobile app. You will need your mobile device with you each time MFA is required.

Setting Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
To set up MFA for your Borough account, follow these steps:

Access the MFA Setup Page
- On your computer, navigate to https://aka.ms/MFASetup.
- Sign in with your full Borough email address and the password you use to log in to a Borough computer.

Provide Additional Security Information
- After logging in, you will be prompted to provide additional security information for MFA setup.
- The default verification method is a phone call, but you can also choose a mobile app for authentication. Ensure you select a method that will be available when you need to work, including remotely.
Option 1: Phone Call Authentication
If you prefer to use a phone call to authenticate, follow these steps:

Select "Authentication Phone"
- In Step 1, choose "Authentication phone."
- Select "United States (+1)" and enter your area code and phone number. Click "Next" to continue.

Complete the Phone Call Verification
- You will receive a phone call from Microsoft. Answer the call and press

to approve.
- After verification, click "Next" to complete the setup process.
Option 2: Mobile App Authentication
If you would like to use a mobile app for MFA, follow these steps:

Install the Microsoft Authenticator App
- Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app for Android or iOS.
- Allow camera access when prompted, as you will need this to scan a QR code.

Add an Account to the App
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app, click "Add account," and choose "Work or school account."
- On your computer, click "Next."

Scan the QR Code
- Use your mobile app to scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
- If you can't scan the QR code, follow the instructions below the QR code to enter the code/URL information manually.
- Once the app displays a six-digit code, click "Next."

Complete the Mobile App Verification
- After completing the QR code scan and verification, click "Next" on your computer to complete the MFA setup.
